Atarodo Bògò Toddler/Kid PJs

$10.00 $27.00
Description

PLEASE SIZE UP 2 SIZES. Our toddler PJs are much loved, so we're sharing the remaining inventory we have with you at a big discount. Due to an error in production, sleeves on these PJ tops are tight. We recommend sizing up two sizes for a more comfortable fit.

About the Print:

Our Bògò collection was inspired by bògòlanfini (meaning "mud cloth" in the Bambara language), a handmade Malian cotton fabric traditionally dyed with fermented mud. Bògòlanfini holds and important place in traditional Malian culture - it is worn by hunters as camouflage, protection and as a badge of status. Women are wrapped in the fabric after they enter adulthood and right after giving birth. Patterns in bògòlanfini fabrics have various cultural meanings, depicting mythological concepts, proverbs and historical events. We’ve named this design “Bògò” which means “earth" or "mud" in Bambara. This Atarodo Bògò is a festive re-coloring of our original best-selling print. We've named this bright red re-coloring Atarodo, which is the Yoruba word for scotch bonnet pepper.

Due to the nature of fabrics and print processes, this print may or may not be the exact same shade, hue, or tone of a previous release of this same print.

Lovely patterns

Ordered different sizes based on previous reviews (runs small/tight) and I'm glad I did. Size 4T will probably fit my child when she's 2 - it might fit a little long but still a bit tight. Wish the material was more elastic or stretchy. The material isn't very thick either, but it's soft and the designs are so cute!

Love the color and softness, size up

I've been a fan of Ade + Ayo's clothing for over a year, so I already knew to size up for all the kids' clothes as they run small. These made for a lovely matching Christmas pjs set. Loved the color and African mud cloth-inspired print.

Sizing is off

I bought 3T for my 21 month old niece and nephew and it was just too tight going over their head and the arms were very tight. I love the color and material and I have bought multiple items and never had this issue before

Disappointed in sizing

Ordered a 3T for my son who is 23 months and typically wears size 24m (2T is usually too long), in hopes we could wear these for a couple years. They're very cute, but the arms are way too tight and these fit more like 2T in every other aspect. Not sure he'll be able to use them again. Wish I would've gone up to 4T.

Our products make it easy and comfortable to bring the beauty of African design into everyday play.

Our Story

Hi! I'm Temidayo, the mom behind Ade + Ayo. I created Ade + Ayo when I was pregnant with my son and I couldn't find children's products that would introduce him to African cultures while fitting into his everyday life. I wanted to change that so that my son, and all of our kids, can grow up with pride and respect for what Africa has to offer.

We use 100% organic cotton.

Safe for kids. Good for the environment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Ade + Ayo black-owned?

Yes, Ade + Ayo is owned by a Nigerian mom - so we’re proudly black- and woman-owned!

Is it cultural appropriation for my child to use Ade + Ayo products if we’re not African or of African descent?

Great question! I created Ade + Ayo to make beautiful African design more accessible to children. I hope to spark curiosity, love and respect for the people and cultures that inspire our products. From my perspective, it’s not cultural appropriation. When you receive your Ade + Ayo pieces, it’s important that your family interacts with these items from a place of celebration and respect for the cultures and people from whom they originate. You can read more about this on our main FAQ page!
