Wosoko Cloth Bib
Description
About the Print:
Our Wosoko print was inspired by bògòlanfini (meaning "mud cloth" in the Bambara language), a handmade Malian cotton fabric traditionally dyed with fermented mud. Bògòlanfini holds and important place in traditional Malian culture - it is worn by hunters as camouflage, protection and as a badge of status. Women are wrapped in the fabric after they enter adulthood and right after giving birth. Patterns in bògòlanfini fabrics have various cultural meanings, depicting mythological concepts, proverbs and historical events. This print features the common bògòlanfini pattern known as "wosoko," the Bambara word for "sickle" (a farming tool) because the pattern resembles the back of a sickle's blade.

Our Story
Hi! I'm Temidayo, the mom behind Ade + Ayo. I created Ade + Ayo when I was pregnant with my son and I couldn't find children's products that would introduce him to African cultures while fitting into his everyday life. I wanted to change that so that my son, and all of our kids, can grow up with pride and respect for what Africa has to offer.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Ade + Ayo black-owned?
Yes, Ade + Ayo is owned by a Nigerian mom - so we’re proudly black- and woman-owned!
Is it cultural appropriation for my child to use Ade + Ayo products if we’re not African or of African descent?
Great question! I created Ade + Ayo to make beautiful African design more accessible to children. I hope to spark curiosity, love and respect for the people and cultures that inspire our products. From my perspective, it’s not cultural appropriation. When you receive your Ade + Ayo pieces, it’s important that your family interacts with these items from a place of celebration and respect for the cultures and people from whom they originate. You can read more about this on our main FAQ page!
