Four African Dishes to Try this Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving is right around the corner in the U.S.! As you finalize your Thanksgiving menu, why not add in a flavorful dish that brings a touch of Africa to this yummy holiday? Today on the blog we're sharing some delicious options to try out!
Moroccan Ground Lamb Stew
This Moroccan dish takes less than 30-minutes to make (yay!) and has the flavor of a slow cooked meal. Spiced with turmeric, cinnamon, ginger and all spice this is the perfect warming dish for a chilly Thanksgiving dinner. Tender ground lamb and chickpeas add an extra burst of protein while the dried apricots and fresh lemon zest balance it all out.
Chakalaka
Chakalaka is a South African vegetable dish that is vegan and gluten free - it works for everyone. If you like a flavor mix of spicy and tangy, this dish is for you.
Coconut Jollof Rice
Now, I would lose my Nigerian card if I didn't include jollof rice in this list. It's a must have at holiday meals - really at every gathering! This coconut spin on the classic jollof rice dish is another easy dish that is kid-approved. Also, if you're not already following Sisi Yemmie, who created this recipe, you really should. Her dishes are sooo good!
Malva Pudding
Lastly, of course I had to include a desert option to top this delicious buffet off. A decadent South African dessert, Malva Pudding is spongy on the inside and crispy on the outside. If that's not enough, it's soaked in warm butter sauce and served with whipped cream or ice cream. Sign me up!
